Description
Jim James was born on the canal in the 1940s during a time where there was still commercial carrying. His life from his earliest recollections was helping his parents work the boats. He couldn’t read or write or add up having had little or schooling. To make up for his lack of academic learning, he had a photographic memory and recognised letters of the alphabet and also numbers but was unable to put them together to read or add up.
Jim tells his own story of how he managed to overcome all these difficulties, to have a family and a job where he didn’t have to read or write.
